What the project is about:

Asia is getting older, and societies need new ways to help seniors stay active, healthy, and connected. This project, called G.A.M.E. (Gerontechnology for Active Ageing in a Multinational Ecosystem), will be carried out in Hong Kong and Singapore. It tackles two common problems: seniors are often left out of technology research (data absenteeism), and many people assume technology alone can solve ageing challenges (technology chauvinism).

G.A.M.E will bring together a set of digital health tools—including a mobile health app (W.A.L.K), wearable gloves, and fun exercise games (both VR and non-VR). These will be co-designed with seniors, caregivers, and community center staff to make sure the tools are simple, useful, and culturally relevant.

Aims

The project will run in three phases:

1. Surveying 2,000 seniors in Hong Kong and Singapore to understand barriers to using digital health tools.

2. Co-creation workshops with 40 stakeholders to design user-friendly and engaging technologies.

3. Pilot testing the G.A.M.E. ecosystem in community centers, where 200 seniors will train and play the games together over 8 weeks, ending in a friendly Hong Kong–Singapore competition.

4. By combining research, co-design, and community-based training, G.A.M.E. aims to build a lasting digital ecosystem that helps older adults improve physical activity, mental well-being, and memory, while also making technology more inclusive and enjoyable.
